Chaparral at Woodside in Woodside, California, offers horseback riding lessons and day camps. Founder Shawn Mott, master horse trainer, lived the life of a cowboy ever since he trained his first mustang at 10 years old. As an Eagle Scout, he was mentored by a 70-year-old, half-Cherokee horseman. Together, they taught trail riding, rodeo, and other horse disciplines to other Boy Scouts.
After training his own horses, our founder built Hillcrest Ranch in Sunol and founded the Sunol Park Pack Station and the Sunset Riding Academy in Sunol. He also managed the Head to Tail Feed Store, contracted with Wente Winery, was a mounted policeman for Shoreline Amphitheater, and worked with the Fame charter schools. His horsemanship has been featured on Bay Area Backroads, Evening Magazine, and in several local newspapers.
Today, Shawn uses his rich and diverse experience of more than 40 years to lead our team of horse instructors. We have partnered with San Mateo County Parks and Recreation and work hard to bring equestrian knowledge and training to students and horse lovers throughout the area. We teach all levels of riding at our three locations in Woodside, Milpitas, and San Francisco and would love to teach you too.
